What does Vanity mean in this quote?

"Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity ". Does it mean the people that dream at night wake up and convince themselves that their being stupid to think that what their dreaming could be possible? Someone explain :) Thanks x
