What happens in the relationship between Langdon and Sophie Neveu in the Dan Brown Books?

There is barely any mention of Sophie in the Lost Symbol, maybe just a sentence or two. And as for Katherine and Langdon, (spoilers!) There are a few flirtatious moments but in the end, nothing more happens in their relationship, as far as I read, they just remained friends.
