Relationship can only move on if trust is there???

I have been living with ny bf for over a year ,hes older and has grown up kids so I wanted to know if he wanted more.. He loves kids , has loads of energy. He is a very honest person too honest sometimes lol.. We have had some problems insecurites and trust issues.. Mostly mine , He has been very very hurt in the past by women and had a child taken away to another country by the mother and he could never find the child..He says that yes he would have kids with me if we were in a good place trust wise and if our relationship was good and that if i stop threanthing to leave him .. Sorry about the typo whats ur ideas on this? but to me his words change a lot because when I mention having kids sometimes he gets really quiet I feel manipulated..
